Why a Network?
ABNN is predicated on Network Science. While that concept may seem daunting in scope, it was chosen for its basic idea that networks come together to ask questions, propose and develop ideas and solutions, and work on behalf of the whole. This ‘whole-approach concept’, with its ability to disperse responsibilities, share resources, and bring together varying ideas and approaches, is a prudent way to engage the Nonprofit Sector.

Ongoing Evolution
Important to note is that ABNN is fluid, with ongoing evolution. What does that mean?
For a start, ABNN is guided by Network Stewards and as those individuals come and go in their respective careers, the Network ‘table’ changes; new ideas, influences, passions come to the table as a result.
Further, the landscape of the Nonprofit Sector is often put in a position of reacting – to provincial and federal budgets, to recessions, to unexpected occurrences like the pandemic – and so ABNN pivots focus along with the Sector. This fluidity in focus is paramount to being a Network.
The Network Stewards meet annually to reflect on ABNN’s primary focus points; the individuals at the ‘table’ and the issues of the day are taken into account. Therefore, though the guiding principles of ABNN remain constant, the work of ABNN changes to reflect the point and persons in time. This ability to evolve is one of ABNN’s greatest strengths.
